“Souling” on All Saints Day – 11.01.19

On Friday, November 1st, the Early Childhood Program (PreK-3, PreK-4, and Kindergarten classes) celebrate All Saints Day by “souling,” a St. Al’s tradition. The classes learn and practice special songs in Music class leading up to All Saints Day. They visit the classrooms of the School and performed for their fellow students and teachers. Leading up to All Saints Day, first through sixth grade collect canned goods to give to the children as they sing. Cans collected are donated to the local food bank. All Saints Day is celebrated by the Catholic Church as a day to commemorate the departed. Some people choose to say extra prayers or light candles. Families often visit their loved ones and sometimes leave food offerings. St. Alphonsus Catholic School has created an age-appropriate tradition and recognizes the day through song and a canned food drive to continue to enforce to our students the message of giving back to the local community.
